ARTWORK
PRESS RELEASEIn the 80's, Detroit was notorious for its “celebrations” on DEVIL'S NITE, the nite before Halloween or October 30th. What started out as relatively innocuous mischief like soaping windows, TP'ing houses and egging cars turned into an annual ritual of arson where at its high point in 1984, 800 house or building fires set the city violently ablaze. To combat this destruction, curfews and citizen patrols have been maintained in recent years during DEVIL'S NITE, which has drastically reduced the violence and arson instances.Over the last several years, the Detroit art and music collective TIME STEREO has brought our attention to the little known fact that the night before Devil’s Night is actually THE DEVIL'S DEVIL'S NITE. To celebrate this holiday Time Stereo will bring their project to New York City for an exciting exhibition that will include painting, sculpture, electronics, noise and performanceart. Scary, bloody and violent artwork and harsh, violent performance by Princess Dragon Mom (PDM) featuring the enigmatic DEVIL'S ROBOT will grace the Lab leading up to the USA's annual HALLOWEEN celebration. Artists: Davin Brainard, Warn Defever, Sarah Lapinski, Jamie Easter, Hitoko Sakai, Ronald Cornelissen, Dion Fischer and MOG. Please enjoy this Detroit tradition with a free evening of action performance and harsh noise by PRINCESS DRAGONMOM at the closing reception on THE DEVIL'S DEVIL'S NITE, Saturday, October 29th, from 7-11pm. The Roger Smith Lab Gallery is a project based exhibition space located in one of the liveliest business sections of New York City.
