Remember that famous MC5 picture by LENI SINCLAIR where the WHITE PANTHER pins are stuck straight into the band's chest??? Here's a close-up with an MC5 button instead...
Another great one, maybe this one should have been picked??? Davin's old boss at the RECORD COLLECTOR (Warren Westfall, not to be confused with TIME STEREO's own WARN DEFEVER) told Davin a story about the time he saw MC5 open for CREAM at the GRANDE BALLROOM. ROB TYNER came out with a flag that said FREAKS and the crowd went nuts!!! Of course it would have been cooler if he had been wearing a WOLFMAN suit!!!
Here's a real regular one, using that famous photo by LENI SINCLAIR. Davin is usually against using material from another artist in his work, but that's what the METRO TIMES wanted. You see, most stencil artists simply take a famous image (usually a photo or clip-art) to KINKO'S, blow it up, make three or four copies, then they cut out the image and spray. Now it's "their" art??? The super famous and popular artist SHEPARD FAIREY/OBEY GIANT uses this technique, and some critics say that he relies too much on the stolen image. But it is possible to use other peoples material and make a great stencil painting, see some of DION FISCHER'S examples HERE. As you may have noticed, Davin uses only original images in his work!!! MC5 were all glammed-out and loved "OLD GLORY" so here's a platform-shoe-tribute to both. JACK WHITE and THE WHITE STRIPES wrecked this one for Davin.
